Our business was established on April 5th, 1991, as a mail order bookselling firm. Both partners having previous experience in the field as well as in other retail-related disciplines and IT, we decided to start off by publishing quarterly catalogues on a variety of subjects. While these were moderately succesful in terms of sales generated, they contributed immensely to the build-up of a customer base. Many of the original customers are still ordering from us today.
Gradually the emphasis in our activities shifted away from supplying individuals towards providing a full range of services to institutions. In 1996 we moved to larger premises. By that time we counted among our customers many of the foremost academic Dutch libraries and a wide array of commercial en non-profit organizations.
These developments were enhanced by the introduction of our tailored monthly alerting service Bibliostrips, which is free to all our regular customers and comes in both printed and emailed form. Nowadays it is usually by word of mouth that new libraries are referred to us, which has led to a further expansion into certain areas of expertise, as well as a larger number of international clients.
In May 2003 we bought a former 1920's shop with its adjacent spaces and first floor, turning it into our current office at Herenstraat 79.
We are fully aware that our business has now reached a stage where we have a reputation to live up to, and that is precisely what we will be striving for in the years to come.
